2005 - New Strategies for E-learning Design: Harnessing Technology for Flexibility and Engagement One of the key priorities in the UK Government’s new estrategy for education is to stimulate greater innovation in e-learning design. To accelerate the development of next generation e-learning, the focus should be less on content-centered design and more on design flexibility for teaching learners. Flexible learning design packages would enable teachers to build their own individual and collaborative learning activities around digital resources helping them engage in design discussions about transforming pedagogy. The presentation will look at existing pilots of these resources and consider the challenges they present to teachers and leaders, as well as designers. Diana Laurillard is Head of the e-Learning Strategy Unit at the UK Government’s Department for Education and Skills and is Visiting Professor at The Open University (OU).
